Broody Hen Thread!

Thank you for that fisherlady will give it a go! Had chickens for just over a year so fairly new to us, exiting tho, love having them.

You will learn that you never quit learning!! And broodies will prove you wrong every time you think you have them figured out!... so stick with it, they are a wonderful addition to anyone's life and backyard!

my broody hatched 5 out of 7 eggs and now everytime i try pick up the chicks she pecks me is there anything i can do to make her stop

We had the big storm here (Pensacola) a few days ago and lost power for about 16hrs. I had to put 13 eggs under my broody who already had 3 just to keep them warm. I put 13 back in the bator on Wed afternoon and my first hatched last night and I now have 3 more peeping! Today is day 22, I expected them to be late because of all they've been through! Supper excited! Pictures soon!

You almost don't want to get her to stop since her pecking you means she is trying to properly defend her chicks.

Put on some thick gloves...one of my two broodies now is sweet but I've had them latch onto leather gloves before. One broody sweet, one a biter, but she's a little Serama and it doesn't hurt a bit. Glad my big ol' BO is sweet because she could bite hard if she wanted to!!!

Hello i have my experiment results coming in the next few days. I have a silkie hatching duck eggs. Candled other day and all are alive and kicking.
