Broody Hen Thread!

Okay, stoopid question....which day counts as Day 1?  The day we put them under the hen or 24 hours later then count from there?

from the time the eggs are placed.

Is that so, i thought they had to be in for 1 day before they are on Day 1?

I always counted from the day they were placed, and even counting that way my chicks still hatched on the 20th day. It is hot here, FL, and humid, so that may be why. I'm not sure if that is the"scientific" way to count, but what I had read on broody hatching threads.

I always count day 1 as 24 hours later, and they hatch on day 18 (almost always) If I counted the way you do it, then they would hatch on day 17, is that even possible??

If I place eggs under a broody on Tuesday the 2nd.... I move down to Tuesday the 23rd and mark it as hatch day.... but I start waiting for cheeping sometime on Monday and don't worry till Thursday.

If you counted the first day as day one, than they would be hatching on day 19, because it would be one more day, not one less. Right? now I'm getting confused......

I count the first day as day 0, then, when they are 24 hors old i call them 1 day old1 How do you do it??

'Cause they cant be one day old if they have just been set??

I do like fisherlady, just add 21 days to my set date. So I guess the set date is day 0 in that scenario, and I'm just confusing myself! Sorry, long day. My chicks usually hatch on day 19 or 20 counting this way. Does that make sense?
