Broody Hen Thread!

Dale's eggs are developing nicely, all 18! Shes getting far more aggressive now, and pecks me when i come near... Shes jus like her mom when she was hatched last may... She makes me so proud!

Olivia seems a little less viscious now that she has hatched her three babies. I think she is doing a good job and is protective......but I think she realizes that when I check out the coop that I am bringing food almost every time. And I had only picked up a chick when it seemed to be unable to get in or out of the nest....that was only the first day. Since then they are able to get around very well. Such cuteness!!

So happy for you (and her and the babies)!!!!

Thank you! I bet it wont stress me out so much the next time, lol.

Our first time at anything is stressful. =)

My Broody's eggs are hatching and she keeps getting up a little and moving them around. Is this normal, it's our first broody?

I'm sorry. I haven't had a broody at all. I don't even know what to compare it to that I have any experience with. Truth be told, I would advise staying close by and/or checking on her and the babies often. The only situation where I would remove them would be if she causes one of them to bleed, then I would only remove that one and dab flour on the site of the wound and stick it in an incubator, if you have one (otherwise, in a sports bra is a nice, toasty, warm place for a baby chick).
Hopefully, someone with some experience will answer you for sure, and you probably won't feel so nervous next time. =)
