Broody Hen Thread!

Welcome. You ask a question here but gave no details. If this egg is a egg you found----I would for sure not eat it----which is why some one ask if it will float if you put it in water. If its a egg that is being incubated then it is due to hatch soon. You gotta give us some details.
yeah sorry about that

we found this abandoned duck egg and put it under one of our chickens hoping it will survive. I was wondering how old it was just to be reddy. Here are some more pics

Actually, I was thinking about it being too old to eat....if it floats it's probably 'bad'.

but yes water candling for the wiggle can work..depends on how long it has been sat upon by a broody.
Ducks take 28 days (I think)

I must have missed the context of the question, or it wasn't explained properly.
Thankyou very much :) @aart

If you found it abandoned and not in a nest already being sat on by a duck then the day you stuck it under your hen should be day one... and my understanding is that duck eggs average around 28 days so you can figure out from that info how far along it is and when to expect a duckling. it does appear to be developing, but i have no idea what time frame it is in....just that there is an obvious mass and an air cell.

All went well with the meet up. Betty took her baby back to her little nest when it started to get dark. I took the nest with baby and momma and put it in the coop she is used to. Hope they all sleep well tonight.

Okay thanks a bunch :)

Ok so Chica my crooked hen (one eye and a crocked leg) is the "surrogate" mother of tow silkies (I put eggs from a silkies cook and these made it). I am afraid one is a cockerel because it grew much faster than its sibling. They were born on Earth's day. Now Chica had no interest in them anymore and she attacks the black one. The one I think is a cockerel. My question is would a hen chase away the male and be ok with the female? Chica is ok with the other one: the white one...
