Wanted to get some silkies. Ended up getting 16 eggs for my broody Wyandotte. Five days in she pooped in the nest. She had never done that before. It was a stinky mess. I cleaned out the box and washed the eggs and put them all back together. Figured none would hatch. Candled them at 10 days due to the previous mess and the fact that I just can't help myself. Seven were little wigglers that got put back under broody(Anastasia). A few smelled really bad and 2-3 were clear. On day 19, again I try but I just can't help myself, I was going to candle some but when I retrieved 2 I saw one was pipped so I quickly put them back. When I did I saw some others were pipped but one looked cracked around the middle. I picked it up to take it in the house and check it out but I heard peeping from inside. So, I thought that maybe it was zipping but it didn't look like a usual zip and it was in the middle of the egg. I put it back and checked several hours later. It looked the same. There was no peeping but was some tapping. Wasn't sure what to think but decided to help it out. When I broke through the membranes there was some blood and I was distraught but I figured I had to continue. There didn't end up being too much blood but the chick was in the wrong end of the egg and would not have been able to get out. It's a puzzle about the crack but that had allowed the little guy some air for a bit. His yolk was absorbed but he was too week when I got him out and didn't make it. When I was doing the assist I had seen another chick had almost completely zipped so I left all through the night. The next morning the zipped one was still not out and the assisted had passed. So, I helped the zipped one and it came out pretty vigorous. not sure why it hadn't got out on it's own. So out of the seven, one died and one is now hatched. Later in the day I see three baby chicks that are semi-fluffed but only two other eggs, I riffle through the nest and surrounding area and try to look under mom but one egg seems to be missing. I got to wondering if the assisted one had died too and she got rid of it somehow. Well the other two eggs hatch and I now have 5 silkies. This morning I go out and there are 6 chicks. How funny is that? Don't know where that other egg was but in spite of my interference and pestering that poor mom I have 6 cute little silkies. I'm trying so hard to leave them be but I'm not doing too well. Anastasia used to peck me hard when I messed with her. I always had to have on gloves. But when she saw me trying to help her little chick out of the shell she just sat and watched and didn't try to peck me at all and didn't get back in the nest until I put the chick in there. When she does peck me for bothering her now it is not very hard at all. Although she really would appreciate it if I would leave them be.

My eggs are at day 22 (almost 23). There are no signs of pipping. I had candled at day 17 and everything looked good. The chicks were moving. I'm just getting worried. I live in Phoenix and was wondering if the heat has maybe messed with them. It's been really hot out the past couple weeks. Although it rained last night and is humid now. How worried should I be?

What kind of eggs? The darker the shell the longer it takes. Marans hatch on day 23. If the temp was cooler it will takea little longer also.
