Broody Hen Thread!

Is the nest she is in movable? How long has she been broody?

Same thing happened with mine. One of the other hens laid an egg on her back just because broody was in the favorite nest box. I moved her to a completely new nest in a new coop at night with the eggs she had been sitting on. I waited until the next night and swapped out the eggs for ones I knew were fertile and healthy. She's been there four days now with no issues.

Its good she is waiting-----it does not happen like that all the time----in a few days if she comes back to her nest and its taken----she might get into another nest----then when the other hen leaves---the eggs go cold and die. I always move mine or block it off where no other hens bother her. Good Luck

this is the second day. I do not have anywhere to move her. I could try to put her in one of the less desirable nests, but i do not have another coop.
Being you do not have anywhere to put her----You could move her and her MARKED eggs to another less used nest tonight-----then construct a wire pen to slide in front of the nest---just big enough to place her some food and water(not close to her)-----maybe a little dust bath---its all she will need. If you will use a wire smaller than chicken wire---her chicks will not be going through it---when they hatch and get pecked by other chickens. Good Luck
