Broody Hen Thread!

Mezzer you are one up on me. I wish I could sit back and watch. The way my old coop is set up the only way I can 'watch' is by lifting the lid on the nesting boxes to sneak a peek.

I think I've made about 15 diversions through the barn and by the nesting boxes with my ear plastered up against the box itself trying to hear any 'peeps' coming from inside.

I just told my husband that the next time a hen goes broody I want a broody cam set up the last three days of her incubating.

Ok, I knew that you would go by there at LEAST 10 times, but congrats, 15 times?

And the day is not over yet!!!!

Makes me wish I had bought more than six eggs for her. Next time I guess. I'd LOVE a broody cam! Guess I'll make do with my little chair. :b I'll be listening for peeps tomorrow, I feel like tomorrow's Christmas!!

Hatching day is a roller coaster. The thrill of healthy babies, and the sadness that comes from the little ones that don't make it for one reason or another. Have a good hatch!

TeeHee. I just started the evening food and water chores, setting up the sand box and chick feed for the broody coop. Also gave me a chance to sneak another peek, legitimate, this time since I could see into Aggie's box while I was working. Dolly came out from under Mom and yawned. While she/he (thinking positive here) I heard a second loud peep peep peep that didn't correspond with her yawn so there is another chick hatched under Aggie. Sure enough, Aggie sort of hitched herself up, doing that little new mom cluck that they do, shifted things around and set back down.

Well, Okay, hands off doesn't mean eyes off.

Any signs of new life for you, 16, paws and Katatonic123, Mezzer and the others involved in our impromptu hatch along?

Nothing to report here. Taffy got up for a moment and I got to see the eggs. No chicks for sure. Couldnt get close enough to see if there are any pips yet. This is day 19 so hopefully something soon.
Glad you got to hear another one peeping. Isnt new life wonderful? I never get tired of it. I just find it so amazing. And those little fluffies peeking out from mamas feathers are cuter than a bugs ear. When the chicks are born under a broody they just have this look of contentment that is so heartwarming to watch.
Wonder how many Aggie girl will hatch out?

Make sure you keep a running count on how many times you REALLY go down there. Inquiring minds want to know.....
Really just so I wont feel bad for cruzing down to the coop fifty or more times when and if Taffy hatches her eggs.

And it's 4 times for me in the last hour. Lol

Perhaps I need a little fridge for a few drinks and ice cream in my coop. Lol
Hey! Great idea! I can do that! I have a little dorm fridge that isn't being used at the moment. Some pop, a few Yogurts. About this thime 16 paws is thinking, Gaaaaa don't encourage her!

Mezzer, my hen has been a little witch the past two days and this little girl is usually the sweetest thing ever to sprout feathers. I think it's the heat. But whatever it is, if looks could kill I'd be dead by now. I left the coop fan on for her tonight. Hopefully she will be a little more comfortable.
