Broody hen

Hi all. My broody hen is on day 22. One egg is piping. Mumma hen has just been of her daily poo but then suddenly started to eat it. Is this normal or is something wrong with her?? 3 days ago she ate the egg of a pipped chick. Sadly this chick died. Now I’m constantly watching and keeping an eye on her.

Sounds like a very poor mom. Sometimes bad eggs are pushed out of debris eaten, but eating a live chick should never happen. Eggs should hatch by day 22. I would never use that hen to hatch again.
