Broody hen

XD get rid of my Tom. Roommate tells me he has good news, brings me towards our ac unit. She has 13 eggs and currently sitting on them

I have 4 broody hens, and after they lay their clutch of eggs they will get up once a day for food water and to go to the bathroom. On day 20 my hens stay on the nest all day following with day 21 and 22. Good luck! Normally they do get up every once in a while

She hasn't gone back and it's been about 2 hours. This was the first time I've caught her on a nest.

She is probably not done laying yet and still thinking about going broody. I have hens that regularly set on a nest for hours before they lay their egg. They are still building up their clutches and are not ready to go broody yet.

She will very likely go back to the nest tomorrow unless she is only laying every other day.

That just shows that she is not broody yet. Give her time.

When we had turkeys and our female had 2 hatches with us. She did not get up almost at all to leave the nest. Idk if she was very devoted or if that was normal for turkeys, but I remember thinking she would thirst to death. Also, watch her at night. Our turkey never left the nest, something came (coon, weasel, something with little fingers and nails) and it ripped out a chunk of her back and all the feathers with it. We believe whatever it was going for the eggs and she wouldn't have it. She still never moved with her back torn out and she also lived and successfully hatched ALL her babies.

18-20 eggs seems to be the number they are usually aiming for. I have a broody bourbon red right now. She started sitting on a mixed breed clutch with turkey and chicken eggs. Then the neighbor two doors down found a nest of my other hen in her flower bed. I ended up taking the mixed clutch and put it in my incubator. Then grabbed the eggs down the road and put them under my broody BR hen. She now happily sits in a crate with 19 eggs, all the same hatch date. The incubator currently holds 19 turkey eggs( 12 bourbon red, 7 midget eggs white I bought at a swap) and 8 or so brown, green and cream colored chicken eggs.

When do I know when she is fully committed? She got up after a few hours
