Broody hen

Block the nests an hour before roosting time, then open when you lock up after dark.
She may have lost status being broody, not sure how much roost space you have.


Show us your broody breaker......is the bottom of crate mesh and raised off the ground?
It probably is but I often CRS.

There is plenty of roost space for her to fit. I watched her last night. She didnt even try to roost. I'll see if I can block it off tonight and see if she goes up to roost.

I'll get a picture in a minute but yes, it is lifted off of the coop floor. It's just the wire from the crate. Let me get out there and get a picture.

Tried to get picture of underneath the crate to show its lifted. Started raining in me so that was fun. She was standing in the roost this morning. Shes also no longer clucking.

I havent because I would bet money she would still sit on them. Right now I'm keeping her in the cage for 72 hours. No run time, nothing. Then we will reevaluate.

Never heard of that one....doubt it would work, a broody would warm that up quickly.

Tho that golf ball sitting under the breaker cage might be driving her nuts,

I moved it. Shes the one who kicked it under there throwing a fit in the nesting box because I took the eggs.

I did go out there to check on everyone and while I heard the soft clucks of my hens as they ran to the run door it was quickly overtaken by the screech of miss broody inside of the coop. Shes pissed and I think I may never be forgiven.

Well, I have figured out one reason why miss broody hates the cage. The 4 11 week olds have decided the top of the cage is perfect roosting space. They crap on her all night.

Chickens are just like children. The younger ones taking advantage when they can and picking on the big ones when they know they're safe.
