I have a hen that sat on eggs that never hatched. I removed the eggs and put new eggs under her. We are at day 25 now and nothing. She has been such a protective body hen not leaving her eggs much at all and I'm concerned that it isn't good for her to keep sitting. The eggs should be fertile as I have 2 roosters for 20 hens. Other eggs that I crack to eat have been fertilized. I candled on 18 and think all was okay. I wanted to let her do her job and haven't messed with eggs other than that. Any advice? I've thought about buying a couple of day old chicks at TSC to put under her.

I have a duck with almost the same situation. She is on her 2nd set of eggs and on day 25 as well. Please advise on what my next move should be. If I am to put chicks and ducklings under them, directions for best success is appreciated. I figured I would do it at night for best success.

Thank you for your time.

I wouldn't worry about the broody chicken, let it go for another maybe 2 weeks and if the eggs don't hatch remove them from her. You could buy chicks at the store if she still won't move when the eggs are gone.

Thank you. I can wait. The reason why I'm concerned for my hen is that she sat on eggs that didn't hatch. after 26 days I candled, removed and added 6 eggs. She has been on these 6 eggs for 25 days. Same thing with my pekin duck.

Thank you for your time and suggestion.

Sure anytime, I think the chicken will be fine, just make sure it has all the food and water needed and eventually it will move on. Chickens being broody don't have health issues due to that. You may see though what is called 'broody poops' which are very large and clumpy, but that is also not an issue it happens all the time

So she’s been on the nest for about two months that’s a bit of a long time for a hen to be broody but I also have a hen that’s been broody for more than two months because I couldn’t break her now she has eggs that should hatch on Sunday next week. Based on my experience I wouldn’t let her sit for another 21 days so I think you should just get some chicks from TSC and try to give them to her during the night.

i pull my hen off the nest every day at 3.00 as this is when all the hens gets a treat, she runs round grabbing what she can and then goes back to the nest so i know she has eaten.

My hen stay off her eggs for 1 hours and then goes back to wrong nest for more than 30 minutes before I took her back to her original nest
is there any problem for hatching the eggs
