Broody hens wont break

I may be past that point right now. I dunked her in cold water and we've had a nice breeze today. I'm worried about her killing them. If she took them that would be great or if I broke her then hallelujah, but what if she's not fully broody and hurts them 😭
I personally wouldn't try again. She honestly sounds a little off her cracker in the broody department. I had a hen like that once and she was a nutjob mother. She was only good for incubating. She'd do that until the cows came home. I had to remove her from the chicks and brood the chicks for 2 weeks until a second broody hatched her chick then adopted the artificially orphaned chicks.
You don't have to put her in the bathroom but bringing her in the house surrounded by the crazy excitement of 6 kids may very well get the job done. Just set her up anywhere that you can easily clean up and has lots of activity. Lay down a big tarp and put her crate in the middle if you have to. Bring her in in the morning, take her out the following morning and see if that doesn't snap her out of it.

Ok. I'll see how she's doing today and go from there. Thankfully no carpet in this house (as if carpet would survive 6 kids anyways) but I'll put the tarp down definitely. I always get the nutjob broodies. Wanto sit on eggs forever but never want the chicks. This set up has always worked before though.

Yeah, being penned up in the middle of six kids? That'd be like permanent mental birth control. (No offense, Mama...I raised three on my own, and twice that many? Whoa.)
Oh no offense taken. The minute I found out I was pregnant with my 6th I was also telling my doctor to schedule my tubal. The last 3 were birth control babies. I even had an iud with one 🤦‍♀️

Ok. Dunked the latest broody into cold water and I think it broke her immediately. Caught her just in time. One psycho broody, I think, is no longer broody but will continue to check on her. One broody left. I set them up a little differently. We have an area in the run that is covered. I originally had them in the coop and felt they weren't getting enough breeze that way. This way shes covered and out of the sun but getting the breeze. I also bought a rabbit cage instead of another dog crate and like it much more. It's bigger and was cheaper. 10 out of 10 recommend

i’m sorry to butt in - but i’m search for info. i’m having my first broody chicken (well, technically she’s a pullet for another month...)Pot Pie, my GLW. She’s puffing up in the box and making weird noises at me. just started today. ahead been spending extra time in the box the last couple days but i just moved her to grab eggs and she came out into the run. I do have a dog crate - but can you explain the cold water dunk? thank you - pic of her broody little butt, bc why not! she wasn’t happy i kicked her out of the box!

I just got a bucket, filled it with water and put her in. Not her face of course. You need to cool down her belly. I did put them back into the lifted crate after that but they were broken by morning.

I just dunked. You can try just the crate first. That had always worked for me before but this time she didn't want to break. I usually keep them in an elevated crate for 3 days and that works.
