Broody Hens

We have six hens in our first flock, soon to be joined by more chicks this spring. 2 Black Astrolorps, 3 Americaunas, and 1 silver laced Wyandotte. Wyandotte is the most broody but it comes and goes, mostly goes. The others don't seem to have ever been broody at all.

My question is this: At what point in a hens life does she become broody?

Each hen is different. Some don’t become broody while other can become broody when they are still pullets.

I waited 2 years hoping one of my ameraucanas would go broody and nothing, so I got a buff orpington, and she went broody at 6 months. Waiting to see what she does when spring comes
