Broody house

Since my hen went broody in the coop with her coop mates I’m a believer in just leaving them where they are (in with the rest of the flock). 3 eggs hatched and none of the other 13 chickens, including 1 rooster, mess with them. They are 17-19 days old and it’s fun watching them peck around with the rest of the gang when I toss food in there. They get right in the mix. The other birds simply ignore them.

I've had mixed results with letting hens hatch chicks with the flock. Sometimes they were great, other times they killed the chicks. It depended on the members in the flocks I had at the time though. I started keeping broodies with chicks separated until the chicks were 2-3 weeks old, before slowly reintegrating them with the flock.

I like my broodies in the coop but separated from flock by a wire wall.
Wall comes down at about 1 week after hatch.

I find it's better to let standered he s clock in the coop cause only one can fit in the nest box but I never let them chicks stay in the coop on the 2nd day I always move them or close them.off all tho I'd rather keeping them away so I can insure the chicks all live
