Broody in December

Your pic shows a roost inside the crate. I would advise taking
that out. The purpose of crating her is to make her uncomfortable.
She'll break much faster without the roost.
Nighttime lows are about to be 1°. Is the dog crate wire too far apart for her feet and won't they be too cold in those temps?

It's to make it hard for her to snuggle down and warm her entire underside,
a roost will not deter that and may prevent foot injuries.
Thank you. I'll keep the 2x4 for now. I posed that ? above. I think the wire spacing is too far apart.

The roost will help her keep her feet warmer.
I noticed you had the crate turned over and the 'top' covered.
The wire will be fine for now, but might think about modifying the new one.
I've rigged all my crates with 1x2 wire on the bottom.
Then I can put the tray underneath, inside, or not use it at all.

I have hardware cloth i can cut to fit tomorrow. Maybe I take roost out for daytime (not as cold) and put back in at night? I got a bigger crate, it's sitting in its upright position. Plywood on top so she doesn't get pooed on. Thank you for link. Photos helped!

I really don't think the roost is an issue, but yeah you could take it out for daytime.
HC will work ok for air circulation, but poops won't fall thru(which is why I used 1x2)

Update *I did get a bigger crate*
I took her out for a bit yesterday to let her run around and stretch her wings. Today, day 3, I let her out and checked back a few times. She was always in the run, never went to the nesting box and tonight was on the roost with everyone. 😁 Success!
