Broody in Feb!!!??

We're getting warmer here. DH has been out of town, but when he returns he'll move the snow away from the outside door so the sun can melt a path. The days have been so sunny, that I think the birds will be willing to go out if they see ground. They are getting pretty sick of the barn. I think she'll take them out for a little. I'll let momma use her discretion.

Yes, I have hardware cloth. That is what I used to block the nest boxes from the "turkey" egg thief. The problem is I can't staple the cloth to the dogloo.

4-5 days to go for me, well for Miss FLoppy.

Hubby built a nursery for her, haha. It's a spacious run inside the coop for mum and babies to nest in peace and get out and stretch and scratch around.
wonder if he'll buy some cigars for the occassion, haha. As it's his Birthday too, same weekend. hmmmmm

Hi everyone! I'm glad to hear all the little chicks are doing ok. My 2 broody bantams are still sitting on eggs. I tried to candle the eggs this past Saturday (day 8 I think) and I accidentally dropped one and cracked it ( It didn't break open, just cracked a bit. I took it out and stopped trying to candle. I went back out the next day to candle the other 9 eggs. I think I could see a little veining on a few, put still really hard to tell. I'll try to check them again in a few days. I thought they would be due to hatch around March 12. If I check them again today, I should be able to tell if they are developing or not right? Oh, one of the eggs had no visible air sac. All of the others had very clear ones. Is that bad? Should I get rid of that one?

Hillbilly Hen would you be able to let "mama" be with everyone else and you just keep the babies in the garage with a light? I think maybe your "mama" is done being a "mama". Just a thought. I think that is what is going to happen here. I think my hen wanted to havve the babies, but I don't think she will be a good "mama".

I have had a broody since January... She is doing fine... I just make sure she has what she needs in the way of water, food and vitamins... She is fine... Not even thin.... I do feed my chickies a bit of moistened cat food or Koi fish food for the extra protien.. That helps keep the weight on them.

My big Buff Orp just went broody, I have eggs coming tomorrow for her to sit on.

Can I post our adventure here??? I really need advice, never did anything like this before
