Broody in Feb!!!??

Basically just mama for heat. We do have a heat lamp in the center hanging from the ceiling that we use when it gets real cold and also lamps hanging above the waterers. DH and I thought we would just "let nature take it's course" with this. I did ask him this morning if he thought we should separate them from the others but he said that he is pretty sure mama will protect them. It has been a long time since we had a broody and we did not separate her and all did fine.
I will put some starter in the coop, I guess that the other chickens will eat it too.

I have already taken photos of the egg - will post it here tomorrow if I can remember to bring my camera. Wow! Maybe it WILL BE TWINS. That is super-exciting. Hope they are both hens - h'mmmmm - I am overrun with eggs! And if it is twins - be expecting a photo around the first of March. Well...I'll post a photo no matter what - even if it is a dinosaur.

Sounds like you guys are all doing great. Mine are due the day after Val. day. Everything seems like it's going well. I did try to candle but the eggs are Black Copper Marans. They are really dark too. I think I see a dark mass but it could just be wishful thinking.

I loved the video of the twins. That was really neat. And then I watched part 2. I'm still kinda worried about when they do come. My plan right now is to leave them with mama in the coop as long as she wants them.

And now I have a second broody. Don't have any eggs for her right now. But I put in a bid in the auctions. 3 days left.

Just got home after errands, 21/2 hours to find Belle outside the pen, gate latched, freaking to get back to her eggs. I hope they survive. I don't know how she got out or anything. Her eggs were ice cold too.

I guess all I can so is hope and wait.

I have my first ever broody a buff orpington sitting on eggs for 7 days now. Cant wait to see the little chickies.

you guys are lucky to have broody hens, I've never had a broody chicken only broody ducks which just makes a bigger mess! So hopefully this is my ear for a broody chicken.
