I know that there are a lot of pages here, but it won't hurt to read some of them. There's a lot of good info here. But I'm sure Chicken Girl wouldn't mind too much. And if you got questions, be sure to ask. No question is a stupid question.

Thanks I read every single post on this, very helpful. I actually started my own post this am so maybe I'll just keep to that, but would really love for some of you experts to help me through this!
Here is my thread and my baby mabel

thank you I LOVE her, she hasn't moved for 2 days, I just put some strawberries & grapes and lettuce under her nose, she pecked and ate some, but that's it. No big poo, no water drank...I'm worried so i hoe at least the few veggies I gave her will give her some liquid.

Remember, if you give her things other than chicken feed, you need to have grit for her. I think you're better off with just feed. She'll eat when and if she wants. Also, have water for her. You may never see her get up. Trust her. She knows what she is doing.

ok thakns for the advice I'll take the "other" items out. I'll leave the feed and some dried mealworms??? is that ok, her favorite. She has a small water container and a large waterer with vitamin water. you rock thanks for the help

ha ha I forget that Mother Nature is in control, not me!!!

Should I put some oyster shell in there even though she's not laying herself, or at least that's what I've been told

I think the mealworms should be ok if they aren't the main food item. I believe the chicken food has some grit in it so that should cover for the "delicacies".

I was thinking about putting the babies in the little fenced off area we have in the coop with a light. I think mama just wants to be a part time mama and if it were not so cold the babies would probably be ok. Today mama laid her first egg since going broody.
