Broody mallard hen

I used some pieces of lattice put plastic poultry fencing over it. That kept mama and ducklings in the coop with everyone but they still had their privacy. Then in the morning after I let everyone out for the day mama and ducklings got the run of the coop for a week.

I've been able to candle the eggs a few times the last few days. They are full of baby duck (I hope). Probably due to hatch sometime this weekend. Also... the broodiness is apparently contagious, as one of my runners has been sitting on a fake egg, so I gave her two eggs that were 2 weeks behind (I had put them in the incubator, but in an effort to save myself more work and give her something more productive to do, now she has a nest of two.)... NO MORE BROODY DUCKS after this... I hope. For this year anyway. LOL

Guys... this broodiness is very contagious LOL. They hired body guards in the form of fake broodies to guard their nests... all my sweet quacks are turning into hormonal screaming monsters LOL.
I can’t wait till one day my ducks do this
My Pekin did nest and was a great broody but she wasn’t so good at hatch and 2 that internal pipped died under her and baby 3 was wrong end and bruised so I had to take it so save her. I wanted mom to have a baby after all that work but after it hatched I tried to give it to her and that was a no go
They are together now but have no idea they are mom and daughter :)
She was less then a year Old when she did so maybe in a few years I’ll let her try again
For now I steal her egg each morning

If you went inside my Muscovy house where most of the nest boxes are Contagious is the word. None have eggs under them but all are broody .
This is why I have male dogs... I don't need hormonal animals. I guess I should have thought of that before getting a bunch of birds LOL. But damn they are adorable.
