My GLW pullet has been in broody mode for three days now. She confiscated others' eggs and layed one of her own the first day. I removed them. Yesterday, she layed again, and I removed it too (the others' eggs were all piled in the other nest box). However, I left the wooden egg under her. My (well...their) eggs aren't fertile. I've read about "broody busting" here on the forum, but I really don't mind her sitting out her "phase" as long as it won't affect her health; I don't mind the egg loss, since she's primarily a pet anyway. Mostly I just worry about her getting proper food/water, because I've only been rousing her once a day when I go to check under her, and at which time she'll usually run out for about 5 minutes and then ZIPPP...right back on the nest.
I'm gonna' remove the wooden egg, because it was mentioned in one post I read that anything under them encourages broodiness. When nothing happens after 21 days or so, will she most likely go back to normal behavior...out wandering with the other girls, eating and drinking? As long as she's okay, I really don't won't to try the "broody busting" methods I've read about. I have no desire for chicks (although I sure love looking at other folks' chicks).
