So my amazing broody has hatched 4 out of 6 eggs. But the last 2 it appears have now been abandoned. She took her 4 babies out into the broody run today and left the eggs up in the coop all day, so I'm guessing they are no longer viable? The other 4 hatched pretty early, so I was suspicious of the other 2 languishing behind anyway.

It's sad as they were my only 2 Speckled Sussex.

Oh well, I'm thrilled with my 4.

Can you hear any chirping coming from the eggs? If not, then yes its likely that your hen feels that they are no longer viable, or feels a greater need to take care of her chicks.

There was no sound coming from either of them, I candled and there is some blackness but not enough i don't think, and I float tested but no sign of any movement. So it's not looking good. I have still left them with her and now she's back in the coop, she's tucked them back under her, but she's been off them all day.
