Broody now!

She ISSSSS!!! My little Molly is 100% Broody! She's on day two of hencubation.

One of my Black Australorps, Clementine, is on day 5 of being broody, I have caged her for 2 days, after that I shut her out of the coop and she spent the ENTIRE day trying to get back into the coop, so finally, after keeping her in a cage again for aprox 24 hours so my family and I can talk about it......
we are letting her be BROODY!!! this is a big deal, we are new to chickens and new to this whole experience!!

I have mail order hatching eggs on the way and I am finishing setting up her special broody pen today. I am moving her tonight, I sure hope all goes WELL!!!!

I know that there is only a 50% hatch rate with shipped eggs sometimes- but we are just excited about this whole thing, even if we don't have any success. As someone on this forum said somewhere, you'll never know is she'll be a good momma, unless you let her try!!

Anyway, she'll be behind the others mentioned here, but I am hoping to follow this thread and hear a lot of success stories to keep our hopes up.

Please share a lot of pictures!!!

The one of the BO setting is so pretty and that Serama is a knockout!

Poultryfan - my first and only ever experience with a broody hen was with a buff orpington. Those girls are dedicated and are excellent mamas! I have four buff girls and when my one girl went broody, it was contageous, and two more of them decided that they wanted to brood too. I had to lock them out of her nest or else I wouldn't have gotten another egg to eat. I wish you all a great hatch!

And thanks for the compliments on my pretty Molly. I tried hatching some serama, and only managed one lone chick, so I called up a friend who had some just hatched under a broody and ended up with Molly and her husband Rohaus. They lived inside my house until they were about six months old so they're very, very people friendly...well Molly not so much these days while she's brooding, but she still lets me pet her a little. I've tried hatching dozen after dozen of serama eggs in my homemade bator but haven't managed to get a single egg to hatch. A friend gave me another serama hen that was laying and Molly was encouraged and finally started to lay after 8 long months of waiting. She's only been laying about a month and now she wants to outdo that dang Mandee newcomer and be a mom! I can't WAIT to see what we get. I'm gonna say lots of hatching prayers. I also have 14 more serama eggs in my new brinsea bator. LOL I just might end up overrun with them.

My Blue Jersey Giant hen has been broody since 4/1, so I am 10 days ahead of the OP. She sitting on 15 of various mixed LF eggs. It was 16 but she threw one out that ended up to be clear. None of the eggs are hers though, darn it. I have her separated from my other hens, so I don't have to worry about extra eggs or another hen bothering her.

Molly is on day 3 or 4. The serama eggs in my bator are on day five so if I'm lucky, I'll be able to give those to Molly if they hatch and she can mama them too!

LOL Imagine that. Just one day after loading the bator full of serama eggs, the little girl goes broody. Serama eggs usually hatch pretty early so I expect they'll start making their appearances around day 17 or 18.​
