Just hatched my first batch of Houdan crosses. How long should I leave them with the hen? I am going to raise them separate form my others..

I'd leave them with the hen, but I think you can take them out anytime.

I would leave them with the hen too, we have 4 chicks 5 weeks old and still with mum, she shows them what they can eat and keeps them warm when it's a bit chilly in the morning and during the night.
She diligently sat on the eggs for 20 days. We just love watching how the chicks copy the scratching that mum does. They are seperate from our other chickens.

Since the hen is not laying eggs, she can eat the Chick starter (I use the medicated variety) as well as the chicks. It might be good for her too since the hen hasn't been eating a whole lot lately anyway. My BO, Luna, still isn't eating that much. She is more showing the chicks how to eat with the soft clucks, It is sooooo cute!!
I'll add the pic later.
