Broody Orp turned vicious?

Any suggestions?
Thanks for all help! :D
Good morning.

I pretty much agree with igor'smistress... and would probably take my chances leaving the eggs or take them for hatching and tuck them back in at NIGHT once hatched.

Some first time broody's don't have it all figured out yet and it's a learning process for them as well... without seeing what actually took place I TRY not to jump to conclusions.. I've seen a hen peck a chick to tell it get back under me... and thought maybe she wasn't feeding them or was being mean... so I confiscated them at night to keep her calm and get a good inspection... not a single one of the chicks was hungry and they were ALL ticked to not be with mum. So even though I was worried.. apparently she had it under control. So I tucked the chicks back in and let her do her thing.

EVERY broody situation is unique... with set up, flock antics, hen personality, etc.. So as mentioned there is NO right answer... just make the best decision you can according YOUR gut.

Embryo's can survive 105 degrees... it very much depends on what stage of development they are in. Certain stages.. may cause deformities like being hatched without eyes. My bator hit 109 once, LATE in incubation.. half survived. A power outage that caused temp drop mid stage for about 8 hours.. caused half to hatch with bent toes. Although broody's can't sense everything and sometimes their killing an embryo or chick is said to be they sensed something we couldn't... I often DOUBT it BUT do believe it's possible.. and KNOW the broody's intent and nature IS to spread her seed. They aren't evil mamas.. just still getting the hang of it.. in some cases.

Happy hatching! :fl :jumpy:jumpy

ok, she is one bad mama! :barnie
she started pecking at the zipping egg, and i noticed it already had a small dried up blood spot on it. I've taken the egg out and put it in the bator.

If it hatches and if she lets the other pipped egg hatch i'll try and put the two chicks together under her after dark.

Or at least not experienced... she might be "trying" to help. :hmm

Your plan sounds good. :fl
