Broody Orpingtons.

I got one Ameracuana girl that got broody and I wanted to stop her from being broody because she failed twice in finishing out. Now she is back being broody and man, I wish she wouldn't.

I got two broody Orp bantam sisters which I put a baby chick in with her after four weeks and she still wanted to brood the other eggs. Crazy girls! Time for me to get some chicks from Rural King and see if that would break them out of it.

Jody let me know if the Rooster keeps setting. I want a pic of that.
So far just the one this week. I am going to move her tomorrow to her own little pen and a few eggs. I have eggs in the bator I can give her in about three weeks and let her hatch them and brood them for me. That will work out well.

My Ducks are

I have one Buff Duck that just hatched a dozen ducklings this week and another Buff and a Buff X Blue Swedish cross duck that have started setting this week. No broody hens yet though, I have a pen of 2 silkie hens, 1 silkie cross hen, and 3 cochin hens that I have for broodies but they haven't started yet.

And if any of yall have hens that are annoyingly broody all the time, send them my way LOL , I love broodies

Maybe I should start NOT wanting a broody and maybe I'll get one......

I do NOT want a broody. It will be a pain. I have no place to separate her. I do NOT want a broody.

My silkies are all broody (I guess they won't be going to the upcoming shows

that I have already entered them in

) but no orpingtons or their roos seem interested

My Buff Orp has been sitting on eggs for a week now. I was not expecting this. I had to knock on the neighbor's door and ask if I could borrow some fertile eggs. All 5 are showing veins so I guess she's doing her job. This is my first broody. Next month marks my first year with chickens. What an adventure!

WizChic,, it is a very wonderful adventure that never gets dull. BTW, i was in oregon last week. Flew in to Portland and drove down to Sweet Home. Beautiful farm land

I think i am going to be a broody expert pretty soon.

I got my first broodiness with two buff orps at the same time. Those two ladies are clucking around with their two week old babies right now, and they're adorable.

The day their chicks hatched, i gave some eggs to a persistent broody barred rock, who is due next Tues i think.

Today, i gave eggs to another buff orp who was looking like she might really hatch those porcelain eggs she was sitting on.

That's 20% of my egg laying staff. Maybe i should start selling chicks instead of eggs!

No roos in the nestbox so far, but you never know!

I have a new-to-the-flock buff roo who is following the mama hens and their babies all over the place. I think he thinks he got an instant family. He's sweet and adorable with them too. I'm having fun.
