Broody Questions

Thanks so much for the information. I too am new and have my first broody hen. My hen just started setting last night. She has nine eggs under her that belong to her and my other four hens. In my excitement I never considered the possibility that they weren't fertile. Also my chickens free range during the day. Do I still need to lock her away? To do this I would need to move her and her eggs to somewhere else (no idea where). I'm Afraid she would quit setting. Should I wait a few days before I candle them?

Okay I read the article that flock watcher posted-very helpful- I just got done moving her nest to a super large dog crate within the coop. Figured the sooner the better. I accidently broke one of her eggs when I picked her up. It was tucked up her breast and fell out. Would it be alright for me to add an egg tomorrow from one of the other chickens tomorrow? Or would one from the fridge be ok? So glad to have found this website!

I am not going to separate her. She is near the top of the pecking order and the flock is small.

I have 2 eggs from the fridge under my broody,aaaannnddd...their developing!!!!

Wow! Thats awesome! Do you guys think i will see development at four days? If so what would i see? Thanks
