Broody Serama?

We have had 2 hens hatch eggs since thanksgiving, 39 egge in the incubator due to hatch on 1-17, now another hen trying to go broody.

What the heck let her sit, the worst thing that could happen is no chicks. But the best thing is that you could have beautiful little fluff balls.

Do not worry about your little hen she will do ok. All of my girls make fantastic moms.

I do not leave my Rooeter in with the hen once she starts sitting, I do not want any thing to bother her while she is with a clutch of eggs.

Ok, thanks everybody, I think I'm gonna let her sit and see what happens. Gonna have to keep removing the "extra" eggs every day though, so hopefully she won't get too annoyed with me!

Chickenaddict, your birds are SO cute! I love the pic with the rooster

Sorry to hijack the thread, but is that a ferret litter pan or a super cute mini nest box? I like it

My Serama girls are currently using a toddler sized shoe box.

That is a litter pan!! I use one like it for my rabbit! Too CUTE!

I had the same issues with Seramas last Winter, they did a wonderful job at caring for the chicks in the cold, then again, I am in the deep South. If you still have reservations about it, you could put a light there for them...they learn really quickly where to go for warmth.

That's great! I hatched 3 Seramas out last week and I think 2 are girls and 1 a boy (just the vibes I'm getting and they are usually right on, lol) so I've been looking at set ups for them as I want to keep them separate from my flock. Thanks for the great idea

Hi so I can leave the rooster in the with her?
Seramas do go broody, and can make great mothers. When they go broody, I have found that they are generally nice, and do not try to peck at you too much, with some exceptions. I have even seen a serama hen raise a guinea chick as her own. If your rooster is friendly and docile, it should be okay to leave him in with her, as long as he does not start to bother the chicks.
