broody silkie advice

I have a 7-8 month old silkie that has been broodie for a while now, I take her out of the nest box twice a day to get water and food.

How long is standard for a silkie being broody??

There's that saying about how long is a piece of string? Well, some hens are so broody that they stay that way whatever you do...sometimes you need to let them hatch eggs.

Placing the hen in a dog crate so she is cold underneath is about the best way....but even this is not enough to persuade some hens.

is it unhealthy for her?? these are my first chickens by the way

it just feels like her breast bone is sticking out more and I am worried she isnt getting enough food. which is why Im taking her out.. She comes out of her "trance" runs around a little frantically eating getting water and pecking in the yard the back in the coop she goes after about 15 minutes.

we have no rooster so I would need to purchase some eggs to go that route as a last resort..
