Broody Silkie turned adoptive mother!

Yeah, I read about that a while ago and thought it sounded like the best idea!! That and outdoor brooding!! So mine will be in a separated part of the coop at first and then I’m planning on expanding the run and moving them to the run in a couple weeks (still separated) then doing the portals in the fence first before full integration. But I am nervous too because my first chicks were raised indoors so I’m nervous about having outside babies haha
Oh yes, it’s nerve racking but it’s so much easier when they are out! And don’t worry about not being able to interact with them.. as they get bigger and especially if they are in a big space.. you can sit in there with them and they hop all over you... that’s what I worried about.. that I wouldn’t be able to spend as much time with them cuz of them being out instead of right inside my house in another room.. but I tell you, they learn to trust you just by feeding them daily and then when you sit with them they just love you.. at least that’s what mine are doing... :love

So here is mama and five week old babies... so funny how they all still try to fit under there ... of course when I ran to get camera they had settled in better... you should have seen them at first :gig

I was wondering when is a good time to let mama and babies integrate into the flock? They are in a partitioned off section within the run.. so everyone has been seeing each other... also, they are bantams and everyone else is standard...
