Broody Soak Questions

So, we have a broody hen and she's been broody for like almost a month now. It's horrible. She's not laying and she's being picked on by the other chickens and she's picking on them. She's hogging their favorite nesting box. I blocked it off but somehow she found her way back in.

I'm thinking about soaking her in cold water, but I have some questions first:

1. Does it have to be warm outside? It's 60 degrees out today, so if I can't do it today, I'll wait for a warmer day.

2. How long should I soak her for?

3. Why does it work? I just don't understand...

Put her in an elevated wire bottom crate with feed and water. Her belly needs to cool and stay cool for a few days.
