My slw was broody for about 10 days. Today I went to check on her and she was out in the run ignoring her eggs. Does this mean she is done? I have never had a broody chicken before and I was excited for chicks.
Sometimes they will quit if they are stressed from lice or for any other reason. Sometimes they just decide they don't want to sit any longer and leave. Leave the eggs for a day or two because she may come back to them and then toss them. The alternative would be to find another broody hen and stick the eggs under her or go buy an incubator to finish the hatch. Good Luck.
I'm guessing it was her first time going broody? It's not unheard of for them to not complete that first brood, they're young and don't really know what they're doing. My white bantam cochin did that twice last summer, sat for 6-8 days then lost interest. Third time was a charm with her.
