so my BO decided two months ago she wanted to brood so i had to break her(she had sat for 6 days),then 3 days after that she sat for 5 days, i have 11 hens and 2 BO and they both normally like to just lay in my coop so i thought thats what she was doing and thats why it takes me awhile to break her, But now a month after her broody spell, she's at it again, i have no clue on what to do for her i thought about getting chicks for herb i have no room for any more right now so thats 3 times in 2 months HELP

I've found that the desire to brood is so strong in some that they will insist on becoming broody no matter how many visits to broody jail.

I finally got to the point that I felt bad for the poor girls alternating between jail and the broody trance so now I "break" them by letting them do what they naturally want to do.

I stick fertile eggs under them and let them hatch them out.

Mine are really happy raising and scratching around with a brood of little fuzzy butts rather than alternating between broody jail and the nest box. She isn't technically broody anymore :)

It might work for you!

Hi, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

I have this issue with some of my Marans and several Silkies. :barnie No I can't let them raise chicks to naturally break them. Yes that's a great way, :love but after 3 or 4 clutches just this year and them still insisting, times however many hens.. it get's crowded and starts attracting rodents. I had 5 broody's all raising hens in my coop with my flock.

My suggestion is sell one or more off to somebody who wants/needs broody's. That's what I've started doing.
