Broomstick method question

Perhaps having a dull knife is why you cut yourself so often. A sharp knife is less likely to slip.
A DULL KNIFE IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN A SHARP ONE.
we have several of this sharpeners laying around..

They are sold at a lot of stores. Average retail value of $9.99. Carbon steel blades. This will turn the dullest knife in your drawer into a razor blade.
Hubby spent the last 6 yrs as a cook/prep cook. They have them handy because you need sharpness when you are in the culinary arts biz. For safety and precision.

It takes less pressure and effort with a sharp knife. More force and pressure with a dull one.

All the movements you describe are normal, no matter the method of killing. The bird will still move, even though she is still dead. What you are seeing is random electrical impulses still firing. I use the broomstick, but am hoping to be able to use the carotid artery slit this year, If I can find a jug big enough for a killing cone. Next time you have to use a broomstick, place it at the very top of the neck, between head and neck. And yes, sometimes I've misjudged and pulled the head off. Dead is dead. If you don't want to see the flopping, drop a bucket OVER the bird.

I second that what you were seeing was just nerves firing. I have had to put down 2 horses (lethal injection), the 2nd one just stopped everything and didn't move again, the first one though got these funky muscle twitches through his neck and shoulders before he went still, and even then, about 5 minutes later, he took a deep gasping breath, but his heart had stopped quite a bit before that. I think maybe the difference was that the 2nd one was standing, so he may have used up his nerve reactions in staying up and keeping his balance before he went down, he even went down pretty gently considering he was likely dead before his knees ever buckled.

I even read a story about a vet tech that was kicked in the head and killed by a dead horse. The horse died at the vet school and was immediately wheeled into the surgery room to do an autopsy (good practice for the vet students, to work on a dead but still fresh body), someone touched the horses back leg and apparently there was enough stored energy that the leg kicked out and kicked the person in the head.

The moral of this is, dead things can do strange things after they die and when they are dying. Dead people have been known to moan or sit up days after dying while they are in the morgue...

When I was still working had access to all my faculties I could proper euthanasia been a test of explore used ether to remove glue from collie ears showing but also knew the dangers also

Goosebumps are warranted... Eeeee-yew!
Moaning is caused by a buildup of gasses which passes the vocal cords and makes a moan-like noise, sitting up is a result of tendons and ligaments tightening as the body dries, still creepy if you're there when they do it.

When I was a child our neighbors dog had a bunch of deformed puppies. My mother sprayed a rag with starting fluid and put over the pups nose and mouth. They were gone right away.

I honestly think the only drawback to this method is that I would not want to use it on something I wanted to eat. I don't think there is technically anything bad that would happen if you gassed a meat bird, but for some reason it makes me hesitate...
