Brother Brother or Brother Sister ?

Leghorns and Leghorn-adjacent breeds are difficult because the girls' combs are so large and they mature so quickly. My California Whites would have been scaring me if I didn't know that they were sexlinked crosses. :D

At this age I'd expect to see male saddle feathers if they're boys -- especially with the combs so red.

How long would I need to wait till it is this obvious? The feathers and crowing etc... it is starting to get really cold here and I wanted to get the Roos in the freezer so there is more room for the Hens in the coop. I am hoping to know by end of October.

I would feel really stupid if I killed a pullet to eat. I just don't want to make a mistake.

Just a few more weeks. :)

I got them from a backyard breeder. She also sold them to me sick (all 5 had eye infections develope the next day), so maybe not the most reliable of sellers. Or I am not a good buyer. First time fumbling through this.
We all learn somewhere. Shame on her for selling you sick birds though.

They may very well be backyard mixes then, too.
