Just picked up my new chicks and got them settled in their brooder. Most of them are right into the food and water but I have a few Silkies and one Brahma that seem to be napping. It strikes me as odd because everyone else is moving around. I am going to keep an eye on them, but if they don't improve what should I do? Some were hatched today and some yesterday.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I was just going to ask the same question...

I just got 50 cornish giants on Tuesday and well one perished this afternoon, I noticed that he had poopy bum though. So the rest of them have now receievd the bum once over and they are good to go. There are 2 or 3 little jiggers those that are smaller that the rest, they stand out because the rest of them have their crops rammed full of food, but these guys are empty or next to empty and they just seem to sit there.

Should I give them egg yolk? or see how they are tomorrow. I don't want to lose any more.

Thanks

when i have listless chicks i put some sugar in the water couple tbs and a tsp of vinagar seems to pep them up

How much water are you putting that amount of sugar and vinnegar in? I just watched them again....it might just be that the two different breeds act differently. The Brahmas seem really rambunctious and the Silkies seem a bit more layed back. I should mark the Silkies that I'm concerned about. Its hard to tell if it is the same ones I see sleeping.

I just came in from taking them out the egg. Was I laughing!! egg inhaled in 10 minute and I had fed the 3 in question (just so they got some) As soon as they had their fill I put them down they went straight to the water and then to the food. Everyone had full crops so I am worried for nothing.

My sis and I got babies the same day- I had 2 standard size chicks, and she got 2 banties. Those banties slept ALL day in the brooder box, and my 2 were up and about. Everything has evened out now. Of my 2 chicks I have one that is really flighty and runs all over the place, and then crashes HARD. The Buff Orpington is more laid back and able to stay awake for longer periods.

I have also worried for nothing....everyone is OK. I washed three bums that looked a bit questionable but other than that everyone is happy. I hope I can sleep tonight....I'll likely check them through the night. The Silkies are very vocal and they are in the spare room closest to my daughter...hope they keep it down!
Thanks everyone!!
