It's 13 here right now.

It's 55 here in So.Cal. I was at a tradeshow in Las Vegas last week and it was 29 on the way home. The high today was 59F. today. Way too cold for me...I have the heater on.

The same with the chickens, it is much easier to keep the coop warm and draft free, that to put in air conditioning.
