Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, It's cold outside!

We're getting some snow - the girls are still scratching around outside, I felt so sorry for them and started cooking some corn on the cob for a treat - then my kids had to eat it first! SO I had to make more for the chickens! So the chickens got their own, plus the half eaten kids corn

Spoiled chickens.................... I would cook em up some oatmeal - but I do want them to eat some CHICKEN food today!

Weather.com has it a -4 right now, with a wind chill of -22
here in New London,Wi.
Birds are all cooped up, and have been for a couple weeks.
Even if the door is left open they wont go outside.
they must be smarter than me.

Definately chickens before kids, lol!!

Very cold in E.C. today. Very beautiful with clean snow and SUNSHINE!! Extra treats for the birds and gather those eggs before they freeze.

Kim, Lexie is doing pretty well inside. I made her a hot cereal out of her hi-protein layer pellets and eggs again, she ate what she wanted, watched TV a minute (seriously!) , then walked right back into the pet carrier! She seems to feel rested and comfy and doesn't make any noise. I thought she'd be banging the sides to escape, but nope. Her entire bottom is almost bare-that girl is pre-plucked, LOL! The wings, chest and stomach are covered in those quills, though. She also was the favorite girl for awhile, so her little head is bald, too. We'll get her back where she should be.

Dang spoiled chickens!

I normally throw their evening scratch out in their run, it was so cold this evening I only threw a tiny bit and the rest I took into the coop - you should have seen the STINK eye they gave me when they thought I wasn't giving them the "correct" amount!

It was an awfully cold day here in the mountains of southwest Virginia!

Oddly enough, I got the most eggs that I have gotten in a long, long time! I put them in my coat pocket and walked around to the front yard to check my bird feeders and several had cracked. Wonder if it was because of going from cold to the warmth of my pockets?

I made them a big bucket of warm oatmeal with scratch grain mixed in late this afternoon. Everyone seemed to enjoy that!

I will be glad to see this cold front move on out!

Your temps sound like all the weather I don't want and left behind. Here in the Tampa area, it was barely 60 today, and 55 this afternoon, and 50 tonight. I made sure my chickens were all locked in, and the 5 week olds in their little coop with a heat lamp. I feel really bad when I hear you all's temps. I couldn't do it anymore.
However!!! You are going to have to listen to all our whining about the heat and humidity. It's brutal too. In the north you have heat waves, how would you like one that's 4 months long and doesn't cool off a bit at night.
I have been working on my 2 coops the past month to make them as shady as possible. The one I put on 16 inch stilts so it would provide shade underneath. The doors will open from the bottom so I can use them as shade as well, like overhangs. I even put ice cubes in their water last summer.
Do you Northerners listen to the trees crackle? I used to love that.
