Two weeks ago one of my roosters mounted a hen and she immediately started limping. I checked her over, no broken legs or anything, put her in a crate, and was able to get her a steroid shot two days later. Vet said it seemed like a bruised, not broken, pelvis. She seemed to perk up by evening and I figured she'd be good to go after a week of med bay. I gave her some vitamins in her water. She's still not improved any further with her limp. She's lively, eating, and drinking, but I'm wondering if I should cull her at this point? I don't have a rooster free pen for layers. We recently trimmed down the entire flock for breeders. Poor girl.

Sprains can take a few weeks to heal. Could you remove the rooster for a bit, to let her heal?
I can give her more time! The crate is in the coop, so she's still getting interaction. In about a week I'll have some space to move the boys to (processing the bachelor pen next weekend).

I bruised my tail bone once.. it hurt for like 6+ months.. much different than a soft tissue bruise. Not enough pain to warrant euthanasia.. in my experience.

The limp sounds like there could have also been some soft tissue damage.. as indicated by the first poster.. I would agree sprains (or ligament/tendon concerns) also take a fair amount of time to fully heal. My shoulder quit working irritated by some excessive gardening and had to be in a sling for about a month before it returned to standard operation.. but indeed it finally did! I couldn't lift my arm at all.. not for a drink, not to pull my pants up, nothing.

Hope she recovers quickly! :fl
