Bubbles in Eye on Silkie - MG?

I noticed bubbles in the left eye on my silkie about 5 days ago. I'm not sure if it's MG, as there are no other symptoms. She's eating, drinking, and acting completely normal otherwise. The only thing I noticed on her was that her left nostril was plugged up with dried food, which took me a couple of days of moistening and carefully digging out the gunk to clear it out. I've been putting a drop of Vet Rx into her nostrils the last three days. Today the bubbles seem to be worse. Wondering if I should start giving her Baytril (actually, I have the generic Enfloxil 10% injectible, 100 mg). If so, what would the dosage be for her? She weighs 2 lb. 2 oz. I would be giving it orally, so would it be twice a day, or just once a day?

If I'm figuring it out correctly, it looks like I should use .10 ml twice per day. Maybe casportpony can chime in. I found an old post with the math: 2.0/2.2 x 20/100 = 0.18ml - so .09ml twice per day? Am I figuring it out correctly?
Annother member showed me this link for a company that does testing for a ton of diseases for a ton of different livestock. Also contact your state veterinarian to see if they offer anything.

There are several methods of testing for mycoplasma (MG.)
PCR testing can be done on tracheal, or choanal swabs, but blood tests might be the most accurate. Older Elisa testing is not as accurate. There is not much sense in getting testing performed if there are false positives. Even with commercial testing labs, it may be necessary to go through a vet who can collect proper samples and send them to labs. I recently was quizzing an avian pathologist at the Ohio state lab, and they said they would only do the testing with a necropsy on a dead bird. It would be good to know if your local NPIP testor could do it.

If one loses a bird that possibly has MG or other diseases, getting a necropsy is probably the best way to get a diagnosis. Here in OH, a necropsy is only $23 for a backyard chicken, plus several dollars cost for each test requested.

Completely agree. Here in Oklahoma the state lab only does testing on dead birds which sadly is too late for that bird but good for the ones in its flock.

Yes, for 5 days.
I don't know is the Vetericyn Plus can be used in the eyes, read your label.
You may be able to find Terramycin eye ointment or you can also use Plain Neosporin in the eye as well.

Hi Wyorp Rock - I called the manufacturer of Vetericyn Plus and I was told that I could use it in my chicken's eyes --- it would be completely safe. Thumbs up for such an all around safe product!!! I also have Terramycin ointment as a back-up! :)

Hey that's great to know!
I hope she gets better soon, please keep us posted.

Well, today is day #5 of dosing with Baytril. Unfortunately, I just noticed that there are still bubbles in her left eye. She's acting, eating, pooping completely normal. Should I just continue with the Baytril for a few more days? Or should I try something else? I have Tylan 50 in the refrigerator, but it expired in 06/2016. Ugh!

Are you removing and flushing the bubbles out of the eyes a couple of times a day?
Any chance there is something in her eye - bedding/debris, feather that is causing the eye swelling and discharge?
Just in case, have you looked inside her beak for any canker or plaques.

I'm like @Eggcessive I would have thought the Baytril would clear this up if it was MG, so re-checking to make sure there is not another source or cause of the bubbles would be what I would do.

If the Baytril did not help, then I would say Tylan50 won't either.

Hi Wyorp Rock, I have been cleaning her eyes morning and evening when I give her the Baytril dosage. I checked her eye this morning and didn't see any debris in it. However, I did see that her nostril (that I had cleaned out previously) had what looked like dried food in it again. With me not giving the girls wet food lately, I don't know why it has what looks like dried food stuck inside of it again. I checked again inside of her mouth and don't see anything. However, I'm starting to wonder if what she has going on in her nostril might be canker. I do have some Fish Zole (Metronidazole) -- of course, expired on 12/2017. I have all of these crazy meds on hand in case of an emergency, and when I need them, they are expired. Ugh!! Anyway, maybe I could give her some of this Fish Zole medication to see if it helps? With her size (2 lb. 2.0 oz.), I'm guessing 1/4 tablet twice a day --- does that sound about right? And will that be a problem if I'm still giving her Baytril for 2 more days?
