Bubbly Eyes

Thanks. Is it possible that it's not the m disease that I can't spell? Or the ceryca (?) or is bubbly eye the trademark symptom of these diseases?

It's almost certainly one of the two, bubbly swollen eyes are a surefire sign of respiratory diseases and those are two most prominent ones that affect chickens. I would say treat with the tetracycline and see what happens, it won't cause any harm either way.

Here is a good list of common diseases including mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG,) and infectious coryza which both cause facial swelling and sinus infection: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

Eye foam is common in MG, while coryza usually causes foul smelling nasal drainage and pus in the eye. Your friend can get the chicken tested, or send it in to the state vet to be euthanized and have a necropsy performed to find the cause of death.
