My Accidental Rooster

I had a pullet that started setting last fall after I had only gotten a few eggs. She sat pretty well at first but it didn't last long. I decided to candle the eggs and there was one that I hatched out in the incubator. He has become really the only pet chicken I have (I was really hoping for a hen,) He has grown into a nice young cockerel for his age, and I was looking at him thinking he really was coming along nicely. I looked on his back for the first time and lo and behold, some of the nicest slate barring on his back feathers I have seen. I sure hope he turns out to be a keeper. What are the chances for an accidental rooster?

Anyone have a pic of a Buckeye hen with chicks? Would love to see that.

*Okay, after looking through 110 pages of this thread, I have found 2 pictures of beautiful buckeye hens and their chicks.

I am in love with the Buckeye...once again. I'm going to go read the issue of BYP that has an article about them.

I agree that Backyard Poultry is worth every penny. I have every issue from the start. I read them cover to cover and slip them into yearly binbers for reference. It's amazing how much new information one can find in it's pages.
