Thanks for the pictures Kathy.Looks like like you got some nice Buckeyes there.I have 10 in the grow out pen that are about 2 wks.younger than your first batch. Not sure what I have yet but it looks to be 5 pullets and 5 cockerels so far.

I'm hoping for 2 roosters and the rest pullets! Well, that's what I ordered anyway!

A brief word of warning in trying to guess a chick's sex by the thickness of the bone in the leg or a hint of beetle green in the tail feathers-- I was convinced one of mine had to be a cockerel. "He" grew into the biggest dang pullet I've ever known (or heard) of --over 7 pounds at 9-10 months. She's on sabbatical at Roy's right now while my search continues for a good piece of land. If anyone gets one of her crosses with Fawkes my #1 cock, be forewarned of the possible results (think japanese monster films).

Well, Chris, I am sure hoping that all those thick legs I see are just that! I am not experienced at sexing, and what I see in these Buckeyes most of all (compared to my other breeds) is THICK legs! Now, mind you, when I ordered these eggs from JamesA, I did order only 2-3 roos. So, I am sure he filled my order accordingly!

Thanks for posting that info about your giant pullet Chris. I have 4 that I hatched from Laura (they are 15 weeks old) and 1 is way bigger than the others with really thick legs and some green in the tail but, no crowing or anything yet so I am not sure what I have. I have 9 from JamesA (they are 10 weeks old) and 1 of them is trying desperately to crow, I think. When can you tell pullets from cockerels? What age have yours started laying?

I know alot of you got eggs and now chicks from me but I wanted to say that all my birds came from Chris through Roy Naugher(Rnau).Chris did all the hard work along with Roy.All I did was purchase some fantastic birds that are my favorites of the breeds I have.I just wanted to make sure that all the credit went to the right people.I can't thank Chris and Roy enough for getting me started with these great birds.Me and Roy along with Chris's input are doing several different breeding to try to improve on a already great line of birds.
