Jim, I couldn't resist. I had to use the "Borg Buckeye" as my avatar....it was because you tried warn me that sunny day in April when we met...but I couldn't help it. We had already seen the chicks Jen brought and just knew...they were coming home with us. Now my family has the Buckeye fever. We have been ASSIMULATED! We need more Buckeyes....

I thought since we're out here in Oregon I was safe telling my Ohio born husband he could get Buckeyes someday if he found a source of quality birds or he built a bator for hatching eggs. After three years of looking I thought he'd given up and the coop would stay occupied with my Orpingtons.

What do we find at the regional poultry show but really nice bantam buckeyes! My hope the owner had only those birds was squashed when my honey tracked him down through the poultry clubs list and was told they had a whole flock of breeding birds. Sigh, we are going out to their farm this wekeend to meet them and I will start building the Buckeyes coop next week.

Fair warning: Never ever let your anti-chicken spouse get a hold of a poultry catalog or your 3 hens in tractor will become 6 hens and 6 ducks in a big coop, then 10 more bantams in another coop, then separate quarters for quarreling roosters, then another coop for his latest chicken love. Oh, and the runner ducks deliver next week.

Note: After over 30 years, I finally got some Buff Ducks.....woke at 5:00 am.....drove to the Post Office......SHE STOLE THEM ALL when I got home! She has also confiscated ALL of the American Buff geese. Though I am allowed to feed, water and clean their pens!​
