does anyone know of a quality source for buckeyes close to Minnesota? they look like they would take the cold well.

Sorry so short yesterday, but I hate posting from my phone, but I couldn't wait! The show was by far mostly bantams, so not a lot of large fowl, therefore, not a large American class. And a lot of folks didn't care for the judging, but I said I'd take it! There were some really nice RIR there, so I was totally surprised.

Please remember, color is not always what it appears on the computer screen.

I went to a show in Hutchinson, Kansas this weekend. It was a double judged show -- two shows at one location on one day. The Heart of America Bantam Club put on the Kansas Classic Fall Show and the Kansas Classic Futurity Show. Monty Fitzgerald of Texas judged the large fowl in the Classic Fall Show, and Tim Bowles of Ohio judged the Classic Futurity.

I took four birds: the pullet that won the Reserve Champion American at the HOTOPA show in Fayetteville, AR on November 6, 2010 (under one judge -- double judged show), another pullet that hadn't been shown, the "Wounded Warrior" cockerel who has been shown in Sedalia, MO (double judged show) on October 16, 2010 (BB under one judge), and the HOTOPA show (BB under one judge, RB under the other), and "Hans Solo" a cockerel that had not been shown this year. These were the only Buckeyes at the show.

What was most interesting to me was that out of the three double judged shows, this was the ONLY one that both judges judged my four exactly the same!

The Wounded Warrior won Best Cockerel, Best of Breed, and RESERVE CHAMPION AMERICAN under BOTH judges: Tim Bowles and Monty Fitzgerald.

The pullet that had not been shown previously placed Reserve Breed under both judges.

I believe there were 1700 +/- birds at the show, 7 breeds in the American Class (including 6 varieties of Wyandotte), for a total showing in the American class of 52 birds.

BEWARE THE BUCKEYES IN SHOWS TO COME!!

I'm not a great photographer. Same cockerel shown below from HOTOPA show.

Wonderful Janet, that's amazing! It really does mean something when you start getting repetitive wins with your birds. The cockerel I won with has always placed over the other cockerels I bring, so I need to look at them really close to see what makes him better. His legs have colored up nicely since the HOTOPA show, but I'm glad your Wounded Warrior wasn't at Haynesville!
