The reason I don't sell the "cull" is that I don't want the birds that don't meet SOP to be known as Buckeyes from Buckeye Dave.

I can understand this. Unless someone is going to eat them or just eat their eggs, I wouldn't want cull birds perpetuated, right?

Well yea, but whose to say that they won't sell them to someone who does want to perpetuate.

They are great looking birds, they are the kind of bird that I expect to see in an early settler pic from the 1800's. Once you get them you will realize the other amazing attributes of the bird, great laying qualities, outstanding meat and an all around friendly disposition. That is the part that I love, their personalities are amazing.

I'm finding this to be delightfully so. My six already show distinct personalities and preferences. I have one who's actually kind of aggressive, but I handle her the most in hopes that I won't have to employ the Mean Chickens=Freezer Chickens rule. I've been letting them outside on warm days (under a laundry basket), and they LOVE it.

Well I've waited this long I suppose I can wait a tad longer... Really I am so looking forward to having these chicks and to watch them grow and eat slugs (my personal favorite way of assasinating those buggers)... My current bantams really seem to delight in digging them up (yay)....

Delayed posting but..my Buckeyes arrived! The hens didn't cooperate so the order was short, but 9 buckeyes, 5 australorps (a cockerel included for my last year hens), 5 buff orpington arrived from Cackles. This group, as a whole, is the *quietest* batch of chicks I've ever raised. They're alert - the cat's sleeping on top their cage (adapted guinea pig cage I use for starting small batches) - eating and drinking well, just much quieter than other birds/hatches. Also chasing bugs at 2 days old...fly landed on the feeder and they went after it! Really like this batch - will be adding some more in time (was hard enough to find/get these!).

cool just to watch 'em!

Does anyone know where Cackle got their Buckeyes from? Some of their breeds are close to SOP quality. I know Ideal ordered Wyandotte Bantam eggs from a friend of mine to get theirs. Just wondering who Cackle may have bought theirs from.
