ive never gotten hatching egs from someone else before, all our eggs hatch , or start , under a bird. im interested in these buckeyes though. never seen them in a hatchery , or anywhere, only on byc. i guess id better create a brooder, or i wonder if its possible to stick foriegn eggd under a broody bo.

I,ve been overrun in buckeye hatching egg orders but I'm caught up now and have plenty in the bator so if anyone is interested in Chris McCarey's line of buckeyes I have eggs available. These are from the same birds that were shown this weekend.

Well,my hatch is over and I ended up with 10 new Buckeye chicks. They are just loaded with personality and curiosity.
I can't believe how friendly and quiet these chicks are.I think they are going to become my favorite breed.

Very true, mine come running every single time. I have one or two that hang back but as soon as I put my hand in they are pushing each other out of the way so I can rub their chests.

Congrats James on your success at your first show. I am very excited to start showing later this year as well.

I've actually heard that you can take chicks and slide them under almost any hen while the hen is sleeping, when she wakes up her natural instincts take over "oooh lookie I had me some chicks last night!!!".

I've never had a broody not accept a chick when you slip em under at night! It's an old trick. They might wake up but, they won't move at night and by the am it's natural to them. I am sure there could always be that first time, but I'd never be afraid to try it.

I've done that before and it worked.

I don't know about any hen, Dave, but I have had the experience of slipping an extra chick or two under a brooding hen just hatched. The hen in question had just hatched a couple while at the same time another hen turned out not to be a great mom and had hatched in the same 72 hour window. Instinct was sufficient and the chicks were saved from a brood box (and I was saved the task of brooding a couple of chicks!). As a subjective observation, the adoptees didn't seem as strongly bonded to the hen but did well just the same.
