jenscott: These two have the white feathers, or parts of feathers. Actually, I'm not sure if its the entire feather.

ellieroo: has white speckels on the back of her head ??? Is that something that just shows up or does it indicate which line she comes from ??

I see these frequently. I don't think it is in any particular line or anything & it doesn't bother me. These may go away with their next molt. If a bird had an entirely white primary feather or tail feather, then definitely I would not use that bird for breeding but do not worry about these incidental white flecks (on the females). However, I wouldn't want them in my males.

Hi! I am new to the BYC forum, but Buckeyes were the catalyst for me to join so that I could ask this all important question...I need to know if there is anyone relatively near me who will have some nice Buckeye chicks and/or hatching eggs in the near future? I wouldn't mind adult birds if that is all that I can find locally (within a 3 hour drive from Oroville, CA-about half way between Sacramento and Chico), but will have to set up a separate isolation pen out of range of the rest of our birds that free range from dawn till dusk. I have read that a few of you have birds that are producing larger eggs than other (a plus for me), but everyone is back East.

We probably will not show our birds, but have friends with kids who are interested in showing so definitely looking to start a flock of Buckeyes that could go on to compete if at all possible. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

Also, Thanks!

to Laura (Pathfinders) for the suggestion to post here (I started on the Yahoo Buckeye group first in my quest).

My pleasure. Between the ABPC Yahoo group and here, lots of good info and contacts to be made! With luck we'll find your someone to get birds from, one way or another (as I've always said, best to buy closer to avoid stressing chicks during shipping.)

We can do that, as long as you promise to wear rubber boots and clothes that haven't been around other birds (I have this OCD thing about biosecurity.) http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-chores012.gif

No problem...I have new wellies and will not wear them around my two chickies and I will also have DH scub down the truck for ya!

Quite honestly I do not know why everyone is questioning these white areas. I have them. They are caused by children!

Bantams with the following names; Walnut, Chocolate Cake, Coconut, and Shishka.

The names pre-provided by a very nice 9 year old girl. They were so happy with their new home they provided me with the gift below.

Cute cute cute! Congratulations on your new Buckeye bantams. Only one of mine is laying now, but I am going to set what she lays. Looking forward to getting more from Duane Urch this spring too!
