Well its my fault for letting the chickens out that morning when I got home from work. On top the predators was my to mt. curs that son let loose while I was a sleep. One loose 95% safe, both loose not safe unless you there watching. I'm 60mi. east of Cincinnati but I'm in Sharonville everyday at work. So I would love work out something to get a rooster. Thank you Laura. As soon as you your gaurd down something bad will happen. Is that a Murphy's Law?

Wellll sheeeeeot, I'm in Sharonville twice a week for work, I have an extra roo (I always have a spare or two), how soon do you want him??

Any time Dave just give me a call when you are able to do it (513)313-1385. I would say after this little snow storm is over.

I was supposed to, but lost them all due to blizzard = power outtage and no heat. I wasn't doing Buckeyes this time, but I think I will do another practice hatch before I get more shipped anyway.

Oh nooo, so sorry to hear that!

I'll tell you, that's why I haven't started hatching yet. We have power outages here when we get bad weather, one year it was off for a week just before Christmas! And last year we had a bad ice storm where some of my neighbors didn't have power for ten days or more. So I've been gun shy about cranking up the incubator quite yet. We have a generator, but it's only going to be able to power so many things, and hard to justify losing all the stuff in the freezer just for some eggs in the incubator. So I've waited, but won't wait much longer!

A WEEK????? Yikes... I wouldn't have minded if we had the wood stove hooked up, but out pellet stove doesn't run without power. I almost bought a generator and wish I had, but I spent that money fixing the truck last month.

Now that they both have the taste of chicken they will never stop.
I am not interested in allowing any of my birds getting mauled by dogs, you can probably go to a local farmers auction to get them some more chew toys.
Good luck.

Not sure how much your dogs are worth or how attached you are to them, but you will have to rehome them. They will never forget what chicken tastes like. They will come back for more. Been there, done that and buried the chickens! You should also tell the new owner why they are being rehomed. It is doubtful anyone will provide you with any more dog food. Not that we don't feel for your situation, but noone wants to see any more good birds get killed. These dogs killed once, they will kill again. Your presence will not help. Probally only get yourself bit. This is not what you probally wanted to hear, but is what you will have to decide. These two dogs or the chickens?

We are all sad about your situation. Not the dogs fault. They did what was natural.

I have an agreement with my Golden Retriever. I keep what is in the fence and I wont get too mad at you for getting what gets out. I would never get rid of my dog for getting ahold of a bird. I would however re-evaluate my fencing (or lack of). Unless you have thousands of birds, why not fence off a part of your property to keep them safe?

My Retriever never lurches at a chicken through the fence, she's a good dog (and in all honesty, I didn't work too hard to train her. She goes in the barn with me to feed them so I think she knows that they are as important to me as she is because after the chicken chores are done, she gets to eat! Don't bite the hand that feeds you
