What are you using for a hatcher, is it still air? and where was the thermometer in relation to the eggs. You know still air is kept at 102 at the top of the egg all the time.

jimsfarmstand: your chicks look strong-- at that age, I look at their shanks-- yours have nice thick shanks (which is what you want).

jenscott: you showing in Pine Bluff in April?

Thank you, but have to give Jen all the credit!

As for her showing in Pine Bluff....Jahdan says she will be losing in Pine Bluff. He plans on beating her with her own bird! We are teaching him to understand the Judge makes the ruling. He is so excited about going to the show. He goes out everyday and talkes to Buck, feeds him and handles him. Should be the tamest Buckeye in the show!

Okay so I've been doing some reading and using my list of must haves in a breed of chicken seems the Buckeyes may win first prize.

1. Friendly
2. Cold Hardy
4. Heritage Breed
3. True dual purpose meat and eggs

The bonus of a dinosaur like yell seems most intriguing.. Must check you tube to see if there may be a video out there on this lovely breed of chicken too.

I won't be looking to purchase from a hatchery as I've BTDT and really want healthy, hardy well bred birds.

What a treasure trove of chicky delights this forum provides its similar to scratch grain in litter to my little mind.

Har, I'd still give them a couple of days, just in case. If no go, Let me know if you want to try again, I'll let you have them for the cost of shipping.

THANKS Jen for the offer, Ill let you know. I guess I jumped to soon and have 5 chicks this morning. I.m now the proud owner of Buckeye chicks. Does it hurt the unhatched eggs when the chicks that have hatched move them around and etc.
