Hi every one. I went to the little Rhody poultry show today, Jason Page won res. American (lost to a huge wyandotte) and I got a pair of Bantams from him. I will get pics later. Nice birds.....

Point of Clarification -- The Wounded Warrior is not one of my hatchlings. I received 26 chicks in late April, 2010 from Laura Haggarty, and he was one of them.
I've raised him, fed him what I thought would be "the absolute best" I could find, and picked him from the group of 15 cockerels in that group of 26. But his genetics were chosen by Laura.
This past few months Warrior has been the "main man" in the breeding pen, and I've sold several groups of chicks, and also hatching eggs. But now the cockerels are separated from the pullets. I have another group of 39 chicks coming along that will be culled from for the Fall shows and the breeding pens I'll set up in late Winter.

What a person does with a chick will determine the outcome. You can sell someone the best genetics out there, and if they don't feed it right and condition it for show, it won't win. Conversely, genetics that are less than stellar can be made the most of during the raising/conditioning process, and win a show where had the buyer not done a good job with it, the bird might otherwise not have gone anywhere.
It's an equal part of genetics and husbandry that makes a good bird, and while I am very grateful for the nod of the head in my direction, all the credit for your show wins belongs to you. Congrats again!

I have just hatched my first 3 buckeyes. Not a good percentage but they were shipped eggs and we never know how they are treated in transport. Surely there will be rooster and hen to come from these three. lol I do have 8 more eggs in the bator for a couple weeks from now but the electricity was off for almost 8 hours one day and being shipped eggs may mean for another bad percentage. I sure hope to begin my relationship with the mighty BUCKEYE.

You're 2 steps ahead of me. I'm still doing my homework/research. talked with Mr. Rhodes, he lives about 3-4 miles from me. A wonderful conversation. We talked for about 30 minutes and he shared much about his birds. I'm working on building an incubator and doing a test batch before going for the buckeyes.
